Feeling sort of down today. My depression is dominating. I think I will feel better tomorrow.

Django Unchained and The Reader

Django Unchained had great acting with very genre specific overacting. The director sets a very ambitious target and gets there. The use of rap music in the background was interesting. I didn't follow enough of the music to comment upon it specifically.

The Reader featured Kate Winslet  magnificently a person more like us than we ordinarily care to admit. A flawed person asked to explain past choices about instances where there were none to make. A comment on the grandness of society and laws made and glorified to uphold none but themselves. The twist of her being illiterate adds another layer to the narrative.

Both very enjoyable.

Les Miserables

Just finishing reading Victor Hugo's lengthy masterpiece. A translation of course. I am far from reading French at that level. One of the things I noticed was the tendency to take off tangentially mid-sentence into long and indulgent expositions of strange matters... like the development of the Paris sewer system or urban architecture. It is very enjoyable much like in the upakhyanas of Vyasa's Mahabharata.

I also watched Delhi Belly. It is a good watch. The first season of Masters of Sex was much better than the second.

My depression has been bothering me much of late. My therapist deciding to retire and so dump me hasn't helped.

A collection of Celtic fairy tales is up next.
